A marriage is supposed to be based on the WOMAN’S culture. The man is coming to marry the girl so must follow the woman’s family’s desires.

It’s hard because African traditions really do take over most of the time. We have so much customs surrounding our weddings 😅

I’m Nigerian and I married a Jamaican too! I completely understand how you feel and I was really grateful that my husband embraced my culture on the day. To include his culture he came out to reggae and dancehall music, so did his family and they brought Jamaican flags. The Alaga even sang Jamaican songs as part of the ceremony for them! We had mixed food and music. After the live band session the DJ did a reggae session too! 🇳🇬❤️🇯🇲

As a Jamaican married to a Nigerian, I GET this, but honestly, it shouldn’t be Nigerian vs Jamaican blend it! The bride might have more say on the wedding day, but both people need to feel comfortable. If a tradition is going to leave you feeling embarrassed, pressured or resentful, you don’t HAVE to do it just because “that’s the culture” You’re literally creating a new family and your own culture together. Take what you both love, leave what you don’t, and make the wedding feel like YOU TWO! Culture matters, but it shouldn’t come before your partner’s comfort or self-respect. It’s YOUR wedding, not the family’s and it sets the tone for your household. Im also a wedding photographer so I've seen this done a number of ways over the years as well as my own personal experience x

It’s not your fault that we as Africans have soo much culture in our weddings and Jamo don’t they have white people wedding 😩, I’m sure him and his family will feel right at home when you do the white wedding. Obviously include his cultural food and music as part of your trad wedding hopefully that should make him feel a lot better

my parents are Jamaican and Nigerian. My advice is...ignore everyone else. They are actually the same people with different culture and food.

I hear but the traditional is usually about the woman, I guess that’s why there’s a white wedding to follow up.

I mean in traditional its about bride side and what can be mixed would be the food and the music that can make it and also you need to understand that your marry into each other culture so you have to be ready
