@wavycurly: $32 vs $4 Refresh Spray…DIY edition Can a hair foam pull double duty as a refresh spray? Apparently we’re experimenting. I wanted a lightweight refresh that could reactivate my waves AND add a little fresh hold, without layering another full application of styling product onto my hair. So I diluted a foam I already use on washday and put it in a continuous-mist bottle. THE RECIPE: • 1 oz XMondo WaveTech Foam liquid • 5 oz distilled water • 1 continuous-mist spray bottle In other words, the ratio is 1:5. 1 part foam to 5 parts distilled water. HOW I USED IT: • Gently SWIRL the mixture instead of shaking it. Remember, the product is literally designed to foam when air is introduced • Test the mister before committing to your whole head • Mist hair until evenly damp • Scrunch and reshape your waves as needed • Diffuse normally THE MATH: A 6 oz batch costs me a little over $4 in WaveTech. About 5 oz of this mixture costs roughly $3.60, compared with $32 for 5 oz of my favorite professionally formulated refresh spray. And to be VERY clear: I love that spray. It works beautifully, and this is not meant to suggest these are identical formulas. I just wanted to see what I could create using something already sitting in my washday lineup. WHY NOT JUST WATER? You absolutely can refresh with water! Water can help reactivate styling product already in your hair. But some refresh days need a little extra support. This gives me the water I need for reactivation plus a small amount of fresh styling product for additional definition and hold. And the entire 6 oz bottle only contains 1 oz of actual foam, so I can spread that small amount of product across multiple refreshes. IMPORTANT NOTE: Adding water changes the original formula and dilutes its preservative system. This DIY mixture should NOT be treated as shelf-stable. I’m using distilled water because it contains fewer minerals and impurities than tap water, which helps reduce extra variables that could affect the formula or clog the mister. Distilled water is not sterile, though, so it does NOT make this mixture shelf-stable. I’m making a small batch, using it promptly during my wash week and not storing leftovers long-term. And when I eventually get product buildup? I own clarifying shampoo. Problem solved. I turn my protein curl cream into a spray, i make a big batch and add a broad spectrum preservative to keep it shelf stable
