Yes, Alfred’s royal genealogy traced his ancestry back to Woden. However, we shouldn’t take that genealogy as evidence that Alfred personally worshipped Woden or regarded him as a god worthy of veneration. Alfred was a committed Christian, and the surviving evidence presents him as strongly opposed to pagan religion, even though he could politically negotiate and coexist with pagan rulers and peoples. 🙂
