@thetimes: Would you notice if smart glasses were filming you? News Reporter Lara Wildenberg tested a pair of Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which look like tortoise-shell sunglasses, and no one was able to identify the technology without being prompted. The subsequent reactions were a mixture of surprise, curiosity and discomfort. Multiple members of the public described the shades as “freaky”, “sneaky” and ripe for misuse. Most said it was not obvious when they were filming. A Meta spokesperson said: “The people who use them and those around them need to trust them. That’s why we built privacy into our AI glasses from the ground up. For example, every pair has a capture LED that blinks when you take a photo or video that you can save or share, it can’t be turned off, and if someone covers or damages the LED, the camera is disabled. We will keep strengthening our protections as our glasses become even more capable.” A government spokesperson said: “Recording someone in public to cause alarm or distress may constitute offences such as harassment or stalking. We are already further strengthening protections for victims of intimate image abuse through new offences in the Crime and Policing Act.” 🔗 Tap the link to read more #meta #rayban #smartglasses #technology #glasses

My dad has been telling me to ignore any glasses wearing man that approaches me, because you’re better safe than sorry. It really is insane that these are legal.

It is an issue. But, then, so are all the CCTV cameras watching us all the time too. And we don't even seem to notice anymore.
