@thesethingstjc: One helluva lesson on what “privilege” actually means and how discrimination plays a huge part in it. Taking 6 minutes of your day to watch this video may change the way you think and/or give you a better understanding of the social aspects of the people around you.

This is good. I’d love to hear from some of these kids as adults today, how this impacted their lives

Unfortunately, a teacher would not be allowed to teach this lesson in this way now.

This experiment not only showed how people are quick to put each other down, it also showed that being put down and being lifted up, can affect how your intelligence is perceived and can affect your performance at any particular discipline.

Jane Elliot never quit. She devoted her entire life to the study of rascism.

Great experiment for a time when blank people didn’t have the same opportunities or were segregated. No context for this today because there is no segregation. Ask races have the same opportunities, and minorities have a few more. This doesn’t apply.

Think of all today's parents calling and complaining that their perfect precious child was discriminated against. They would have the teacher fired.

Such a simple lesson with such a powerful message. Imagine if we'd all been given this lesson. ALL of us. Imagine the world we'd live it today.

This actually made me want to cry by the end. How quickly the children fell into full blown discrimination and bigotry. How easy it is to influence people.

My teacher did this when I was in 5th grade. I was a brown eyed girl. I was already going through a lot of things at home, this day, this experience at school pushed me over the edge. I was a quiet girl in school, but this day I had a melt down. Screamed at the teacher. She was kind, brought me to the hall and let me feel my emotions. I needed that so badly. I was finally able to release the trauma from my home life and though my emotions really had nothing to do with this experience at school, it allowed me to finally release so many built up emotions. I’m so thankful she did this, and then allowed me to have that release alone in the hallway until I was done and ready to come back. I still keep in contact with her today and I’m 27 yrs old now.
