I’m struggling to understand this one. Your explanation makes sense, except for that why don’t people make fun of the government’s response to it rather than the actual event? It feels like people wouldn’t normally make fun of any tragic event (I’m specifically talking about leftists and people I tend to follow like you) but this one is okay to make fun of? Innocent people were still involved, as you said. The jokes I see are always about it happening in general (the towers joke), not the government so I’m a bit confused. Not looking for an argument, just trying to understand because it seems like people I normally would agree with do this too and that’s confusing for me.

I love how they use 9/11 as an excuse to be extremely racist towards Arabs and Muslims as if America didn’t fund most if not all the genocides in west Asia. They’re even racist towards their own mayor of New York all because of what? Him being Muslim.

Simple answer: everyone has got their own problems. And empathy exist, but it was still a notable terror attack on our country and that didn’t happen often. To each their own. I can feel empathy about 9/11 and about those in Palestine and in the Congo
