@runningwithaidan: Nobody’s child should ever feel this way. One thing this life has taught me is that young lads will open up when they feel safe enough to. And that safety is built long before the difficult conversation. It’s in how you speak. The jokes you make. How you react to people who are different. Whether you listen… or judge. That conversation stayed with me because it made me think about my own son. I never want him to need help and feel like I’m the last person he can come to. I won’t always have the right answer. But I want him to know there is nothing he could ever tell me that would make me love him less. Sometimes the most important thing you can give someone isn’t advice. It’s somewhere safe to tell the truth.
