this was so helpful and informative. I have a follow up question, when does the design catch up? As in, when would a baby be able to produce it's own vitamin K to control this if no vit K was given? also don't come for me 😂 both my babies received vit K and I'm an RN, I'm just interested in the answer

One thing I try to remind my fellow Christians is that we live in a post Genesis 3 world, meaning everything is damaged by sin and the curse. That especially includes childbirth. Just because something is designed like this now does not mean it is the way it was supposed to be, we can and should use the medical knowledge God gave us to preserve life.

Thank you for creating a post that is kind and informative. For those of y’all shaming moms for “no common sense” and such- THIS kind of post is the way to reach those of us that in general are more hesitant to intervene in natural processes without very good reason and explanation. Treating us like idiots only increases hesitation and decreases trust. INFORMED consent is lacking. Acting like we are just idiots only worsens the problem. I became more trusting of vaccines after a kind, patient doctor actually answered my questions, validated some of my concerns, and then left me to make a decision without pressure. I ended up following his recommendation.

Great explanation! It is difficult to see parents choose not to give their new born vitamin K. Even new moms need extra supplements after giving birth or their systems can run depleted. Water, vitamins, protein, etc. I don't understand the hesitation to give a new born what could save their lives. 🥺

Babies need vitamin K now because we have different risks. Such as vehicles, elevated surfaces, and aggressive births.

Thank you for sharing this information. I genuinely wish doctors and scientists posted more content like this on social media. I think a lot of the general populations fear of science is from ignorance. This is a really great explanation, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it changed someone’s mind after they read it.

I'm a nurse but far from L&D. I've always known about vitamin K and the reasoning, but im curious. If the mother highly increased her intake of vitamin K, would that make a difference? I've heard of breast milk changing colors through diet and baby's needs, so im curious if, before modern L&D, if there were traditions around eating a bunch of greens after birth or something.
