@gymdusty: Your tricep makes up 66% of your entire arm, why not maximise its growth these ways? I understand the whole just extend your arm talk however people just think it's unnecessary to bias your medial and lateral head when they make up half your tricep so 33% of your entire arm (that's the same proportion as your biceps and some of you will go crazy about bicep growth). what does the graph actually say? it tells us that the long head is best trained in the flexed position (when our arm is around 70° of elbow flexion) however the medial and lateral heads are best trained when the elbow is more contracted. A JM press where the humerus is moving is a great option and so is an overhead extension as they both disadvantage the long head. when we want to bias a muscle that performs the same joint action as another muscle (in this scenario were talking about the longhead and medial/lateral head as separate) we need to disadvantage the other muscle. so training in the more contracted position disadvantages the long head, so does a moving humerus during extension and so does having your arm overhead. put that together and do what you want. if you don't have a medial/lateral movement I'd advice adding just one set in, the pullovers are not a necessity however is an S tier lat exercise which will also give you longhead growth created by Mr. @Keenanrmalloy #gym #tricep #optimal #hypertrophy #sciencebasedtraining

I do a cuffed single arm tricep extension and a JM press on the chest press machine (thankfully not a converging machine) is this all I need for triceps? And if not then anyone feel free to inform me on what to do

I don't understand how shoulder flexion disadvantages the long head? normally putting a muscle at its lengethed position will lead to greater stimulus, like a recline curl compared to a preacher curl for biceps. Shouldn't shoulder extension disadvantage the long head, like in a dip or normal pushdown since it puts it in a shortened position? Maeo et al 2022 brings this up.

How come placing the arm overhead disadvantages the longer head of the tricep considering its origin? Is it because it places it in a permanent lengthened position hence having active insufficiency? Sorry if I am completely wrong on the subject.

but dusty, what about pressing (chest and shoulders, not tricep targeted) do we still count them into tricep sets? to which part of the tricep do they provide stimulus to? you completely forgot about it!

Long head probably doesn’t expierence much passive insufficiency. At least that is what we see in outcomes

Overhead ext is more long head when ascending rp, when descending its in passive insufficiency and a lot of people perform it with internal rotation disadvantaging long head

The main issue is that the post jumps from “the long head of the triceps can assist with shoulder extension” to “therefore pullovers will give you more long-head growth,” which isn't necessarily true. A muscle being involved in a movement doesn't mean that movement is an effective or superior hypertrophy exercise for it, and pullovers primarily train the lats/shoulder extensors rather than being a dedicated triceps exercise. The claim about getting “regional hypertrophy” of the long head is also unsupported just from the exercise's biomechanics. So yes, the long head crosses the shoulder joint, but that alone doesn't prove that adding pullovers will meaningfully increase longhead triceps growth, especially if you're already doing proper triceps exercises.

A Sagittal row isn’t gonna meaningfully provide stimulus to your long head if you perform it correctly, top half pullover descending is far better for proximal long head

But in a cuffed tricep overhead extension I personally feel that it is easiest at the top, which is the contracted position. How can make it hardest in the contracted position
