I have shared his story every year to my 5th grade classes for the last 10 years. They walk in the class with a red bandana waiting on their desk, and wear it all day. By the end of the day they have to tell me what the red bandana symbolizes. We watch both ESPN documentaries and create a bandana collage with his characteristics and quotes on it. I have students in college coming back and saying this was the lesson they remembered the most while being in school. His memory continues to influence new generations. ❤️

My dad always had a red bandana on him and I would like to think that he has already met Welles and exchanged red bandanas 😭 a true hero that will never be forgotten 🙏🏽❤️

In 2011 on the weekend of the 10yr anniversary of 9/11 UCF honored Welles when we played BC in Orlando. The stands were filled with a sea of red bandanas. You couldn’t even find red paisley material within a 10 mile radius around the school. We had sold it all out.
