Mai unguwan :
@Mai Unguwan, with due respect, sir, may I ask about the actual role and responsibility of our elders in Northern Nigeria? What is preventing them from speaking out on the pressing challenges confronting our communities?
We have a growing number of out-of-school children, persistent insecurity, inadequate healthcare facilities, poor road infrastructure, youth unemployment, and limited educational opportunities. Yet, many of the elders who command significant respect and influence appear reluctant to engage our governors and other authorities meaningfully on these issues.
If our elders are truly regarded as voices of wisdom and representatives of the people, their influence should extend beyond protecting personal or family interests. They should also advocate for the welfare, education, security, and development of the younger generation and the wider society.
Respectfully, the North needs elders who will speak courageously for the people, hold leaders accountable, and actively contribute to the development of their respective states—not merely elders whose influence is limited to their immediate families and associates.
