Stefan loved Elena at first. When she was human and worshiped him. Once things changed, Stefan’s love was warped. When she became vampire, all he could do was try to keep her vampirism hidden and try to fix it. Damon loved her through all of it and didn’t try to change her, just wanted her to admit the truth. Elena needed different. Elena didn’t want Matt because he was “normal”. Stefan was also “normal” but he was a vampire. Now Damon…he was vampire AND different—he made her feel alive in a way she never felt. She felt loved, accepted, and alive.
