Florida Learjet Crash — What We Know So Far A Learjet 60 flying from Austin, Texas to North Eleuthera, Bahamas crashed on Sunday, November 1, around 12:50 PM ET near Military Trail and 10th Avenue North, in the Greenacres area of Palm Beach County, Florida. The jet came down in a mobile home neighborhood. All 9 people aboard were killed. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the deaths on Sunday evening, calling it a horrific tragedy. The FAA confirmed the flight departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. Victim names have NOT been released yet. As of late Sunday night, no official — not the FAA, the NTSB, or Palm Beach County officials — had named any of the nine people aboard. We will update this post as soon as names are officially released. On the ground, there were no confirmed deaths or injuries as of Sunday evening, according to Governor Ron DeSantis and local officials. About 600 nearby residents were evacuated and shelters were opened. A nearby high school, John I. Leonard High School in Greenacres, will stay closed Monday while emergency crews continue working at the crash site. What has been reported so far — this is NOT an official cause: air traffic control recordings captured by LiveATC.net show the crew reporting light clear ice they described as "manageable," moderate turbulence, precipitation, and an outside temperature of about -47°C while flying near 35,000 feet. They asked to climb to 37,000 feet for a better ride. Shortly after, the crew declared a mayday, reporting an overspeed condition and a descent of 10,000 then 20,000 feet per minute. Flight-tracking data later showed descent rates over 30,000 feet per minute in the final steep descent. South Florida was under a stalled frontal boundary that produced widespread thunderstorms, and a convective SIGMET warned of hazards to aircraft. The NTSB has NOT determined a cause. An NTSB go-team is leading the investigation with FAA support, examining the wreckage, flight data, weather, aircraft systems, and cockpit communications. A preliminary factual report is expected in the coming weeks, and a media briefing was scheduled for Monday in West Palm Beach. Our hearts are with the families of the nine people lost, and with the evacuated neighbors. We will update this post as names and official findings are released. #florida #flight #repost
