5 things about me that explain my art (probably) 🎨 1️⃣ I grew up surrounded by my culture and my art from the day I was born. I watched my father's gallery and saw what it meant to carry that kind of responsibility for our community and our stories. I always had the itch for it, but I knew what it meant to take it on, to become a voice for our people through art, and it wasn't until I was 22 that I felt ready. That's when I opened my own gallery. I knew it would be hard. 2️⃣ I never plan, trace, or design a piece before I start. If I try to force it, that's when it stops flowing, that's when the mistakes creep in. I let myself sit in the moment instead, and visualise it in the top right of my mind, almost like I'm travelling across Country from above, watching the land unfold the way it wants to be seen. I'm not really creating it so much as I'm along for the ride, translating what I'm shown. 3️⃣ I'm also a Yamaha Australia WaveRunner ambassador, one of many collaborations I've had the privilege of being part of, and honestly one of my favourites. Creating custom artwork for Yamaha Australia and seeing it featured on one of their WaveRunners still doesn't feel real. There's something fitting about it too. I'm an absolute adrenaline lover, and being out on the water has always been another place I go to feel connected and clear-headed, not so different from being on Country. There's no better feeling than running a muck out there. 4️⃣ Reformer Pilates isn't just a workout for me, it's part of how I clear my head enough to let the art flow without overthinking it. 5️⃣ I was in the fashion world from the age of 14, when I started an online clothing store that grew into wholesaling and retailing some of the best Australian and international designers at the time. It gave me so much pride. I spent over 12 years across wholesale and retail before those two worlds, fashion and art, finally collided. I collaborated with Aje on their Resort '17 collection, featuring my great-grandmother Minnie Pwerle's artwork. It was the first time I saw both sides of me exist in the same place, my world in fashion carrying my family's legacy into it. I'd tried to paint on and off since I was young, but it's only been the last 4-5 years that art has been my full-time craft.
