@mjcfc_mj_croatia_fanclub: Michael originally wrote the song following a meeting with South African President Nelson Mandela in 1999, inspired by the concept of healing world conflicts through music. It was initially intended as a charity record to support victims of the Kosovo War, titled "Heal L.A." early in development. After the terror attacks on September 11, Michael rewrote and updated the track into a massive charity project to benefit victims, survivors, and relief efforts for 9/11. Just like "We Are the World" in 1985, Michael assembled over 35 superstars across pop, rock, and Latin music. The lineup included Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, Usher, Shakira, Carlos Santana, Backstreet Boys, and Luther Vandross. A Spanish version titled "Todo Para Ti" was also recorded. Despite its humanitarian purpose, Sony Music blocked the commercial release of the single due to disputes surrounding Michael's contract renewal and disputes with producer Marc Schaffel. Because of legal entanglements, the song was held back from radio and retail for two years, depriving the 9/11 relief funds of millions in potential royalties. On October 27, 2003, the song was finally released as a paid digital download, with proceeds directed to children's charities.
