I can’t imagine watching that. My father worked in the south tower but was on the street and also saw the plane hit. He was very lucky that day.

I honestly think it’s deeply fascinating hearing of the stories of those who were actually in New York when it happened. It makes this that much more tangible. My dad and his family are from New York and my uncle was in the city during 9/11. Thank you for sharing!! 💕

We're around the same age, I was 23 and working as an office worker in a high rise in Chicago and my boss sent us home. And I remember how scary it was walking home looking up at all those skyscrapers when we didn't know how many more planes there were. I can't imagine how terrifying it was for you. Thanks for sharing your story

Same, I lived on 15th and 7th a d walked up to 39th street for work. It was the clearest bluest day, and you can see a straight down 7th Ave to the world train center. And you can hear the plane, it was flying so low. And it was “market” time for us. We had buyers in at CKJ. I still remember it so clearly.

I was 15, lived in Ohio, I remember hearing stories of how the atmosphere was in the aftermath, how New Yorkers were no longer strangers, people were among eye contact, speaking to each other, the kindness. It lasted for months, until eventually it went back to normal.

I was in high school in South Texas and remember the school going on lock down and them saying, I think everyone should go home. If it's terrorists, the nearby military bases might be targets. It was definitely a crazy time.

I was getting ready for my nursing shift, had the tv on, stared in shock. The second plane hit, you knew it was an attack. I cannot imagine what is was like for you in the city. My husband was in North Jersey for work,watched from the Jersey side in disbelief. My son was at Drexel University. i remember panicking, wanting to bring him home. My son lost his friend Nick Brandamarti. He was only 21 yo. He worked South Tower, 89th floor. An Innocence was lost that day.

I remember the cold sweat of terror that came upon me when we all realized what was going on was intentional. And then for a while, we didn’t know how many planes were compromised or where they’d hit, so people just started being evacuated everywhere. I remember my boss telling us to go straight home and not stop anywhere - and I live three states away from NY!

I was in my 20s living in Brooklyn on 9/11. I hadn't left my apartment in Brooklyn yet - I was a production designer on a film that was supposed to start shooting that day (it never did). My friend called and told me to turn on the TV and I was watching the coverage on NY1 when the second plane hit. I had a good view of lower Manhattan and the twin towers from the overpass right across the street from my house and I'll never forget hearing the sirens and seeing all the firetrucks rushing to the battery tunnel. I kept running out front to watch it happening in real time over the water. I was so in shock, I couldn't believe it even when I was seeing it with my very own eyes. And after the first tower fell it rained ash - my backyard was covered in it. It was definitely the most heartbreaking day of my life and it changed me forever. It's been cathartic to hear other peoples' stories and I appreciate you sharing yours, Kara. Sending you love ♥️
