As a cosmetic retail employee that's why I always tell customers to look at the swatches in the sun and we have a 30 day return policy for a reason 😭. Unfortunately the bright LEDs make our job impossible to find a perfect match for customers half the time the bright white light doesn't show the true saturation of a color so sometimes clients will leave with a shade that is too orange/yellow. We truly try our best with what we are given.

I came back to return something I was color matched with because in natural light, AKA the sun on my balcony, it didn’t look right and the girl had the nerve to tell me THIS IS natural light (referring to the light in the store) 😭

I was tired of wrong matches so I had to tell the worker to match me and let me go stand in a window for 5 minutes to check the shade and how it oxidizes 😭 i got my match tho😏 and learned I was cool instead of neutral 😅

One time I was worried about a foundation color oxidizing and the girl at a Scottsdale Sephora told me in response that I was light but I would never be white person white lol ... tf I didn't want to look white I just wanted to not look orange 😭😭

as a sephora BA, i will make sure that shade fits you. i pull out 10 flash lights and have you stand by the window for the lighting outside. i even give enough samples for you to try at home before you buy the actual shade!! this lowkey made me sad.

You can always ask for a hand mirror and step outside. I tell my clients all the time to step to the front of the store.

sephora needs to change their damn lighting set up you can’t have the black and white aesthetic with LED’s only. i had the same experience years ago and never let any sephora employee “color match” me since. spent $60 on a peachy af laura mercier foundation. i stg it’s the lighting in there.

I worked at Sephora and I used to walk out of the store with my Clients to see how the shades looked on them. They loved me so much because of this, I had regulars!! I made sure they didn’t need to come back unless it was to restock!!🤣🤣

I used to dread shade matching someone when I worked at ulta because when I would shade match myself there this would happen later!! They have to get better lights in those stores
