@amy_santoro: Replying to @LongHaulerLars imagine slacking off at work and having to serve 10 years in prison as a result. #csi #crime #colorado #law #truecrime
A quote from my analytical chemistry professor: ‘The deepest, darkest pit of hell is reserved for those who manipulate data.’ You have a lot of power in your hands when you’re a scientist. You have to take that incredibly seriously or get out of science.

Kudos to the intern. I imagine ‘snitches’ lose their reputation and will be hard landing a job in any field

I work in justice tech and I think when we have the power to impact people's rights, that's sacred. it's serious. it's not a job you can do halfway. I think it's too light

Why would she think she wouldn't get found out though? Was her work not peer reviewed before it was treated as final? like, why was an intern the one that found it? So many questions!

It’s not enough to compensate all the people who have suffered because of her evidence. It can be that guilty people will be set free and innocent people are still locked up.

If we don’t hold people like this accountable, it dilutes the faith in the system.

my first day my supervisor dropped a file folder of newspaper clippings and had me read all of them. When I gave it back he said 'don't do anything that would land you in the file.'

The penalty needs to be so harsh that no other person in her position will think twice about doing anything remotely similar. Not sure what minimums she has to serve, but I can’t imagine she’ll do the whole 10.
