@nourishingapothecary: Fatty liver isn’t just about your liver. Fatty liver occurs when excess fat, particularly triglycerides, accumulates within liver cells. And one of the biggest misconceptions is that it’s always caused by alcohol. What we now call metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease, or MASLD, is closely associated with metabolic dysfunction, particularly insulin resistance. When I see fatty liver, I want to understand why it developed in the first place. I’m looking at insulin and glucose regulation, triglycerides, cholesterol, body composition, alcohol intake, medications, liver enzymes and the broader metabolic picture. You can also have fatty liver while feeling completely well, and sometimes liver enzymes are normal. So being told “you have fatty liver, you just need to lose weight” shouldn’t necessarily be where the investigation ends. If you’ve been diagnosed with fatty liver and want support investigating the metabolic drivers behind it, our naturopaths Jess and Toni both work with metabolic health. You can start with a free discovery call to find the right practitioner for you. Consultations are available in Sydney and via Zoom Australia wide. www.nourishingapothecary.com #FattyLiver #InsulinResistance #MetabolicHealth #LiverHealth #Naturopathy
