The way people speak about Megan tells me a lot about how misogynistic a man is and how much misogyny a woman has internalized. Regardless of how people have tried to rewrite the story, Megan was victimized. She was hurt. She was shot. And somehow, her decision to eventually say that out loud made her the villain. Before naming Tory Lanez, she spent weeks protecting him. She did not immediately tell police what happened. She did not initially name him publicly. She only stopped protecting him after competing narratives about what happened began circulating and she felt she was being lied on. And from that moment forward, everything about her became evidence against her. Her sexuality. Her friendships. Her relationships. Her confidence. Her success. Her anger. Her grief. Her willingness to speak. Media participated. Black media participated. Men participated. Women participated. And even now, in 2026, her name can barely be mentioned without a barrage of vitriol, misogyny and misogynoir following behind it. And still, she rises. She is still successful. Still visible. Still working. Still showing up. So if there is anything to take from this series, let it be this: “If you are silent about your pain, they’ll kill you and say you enjoyed it.” Do not be silent about your pain. Speak about what happened to you. Speak about what you survived. Because misogyny does not promise to leave you alone just because you stay quiet.
