On June 19, 1991, the Vizconde family was found brutally murdered inside their home in BF Homes, Parañaque. The victims were 49-year-old Estrellita Vizconde and her two daughters, 19-year-old Carmela and 7-year-old Jennifer. Carmela was found in her bedroom, while Estrellita and Jennifer were discovered in another part of the house. All three had been stabbed multiple times. Their father, Lauro Vizconde, was away in the United States at the time of the murders. When he learned that his entire family had been killed, he returned to the Philippines and began a decades-long search for justice. The murders shocked the country. Investigators struggled to determine who had entered the house that night and why. Months later, a woman named Jessica Alfaro came forward and claimed she had witnessed the killings. She identified several men as the perpetrators, including Hubert Webb, the son of a wealthy businessman and politician. Webb and several others were arrested and charged with the murders. The prosecution relied heavily on Alfaro's testimony and other evidence. In 1995, the trial court found Webb and the other accused guilty and sentenced them to reclusion perpetua. For years, Lauro Vizconde continued to fight for justice for his wife and daughters. Even after the case became one of the most controversial criminal trials in Philippine history, he refused to stop seeking answers. Then, in 2010, the Supreme Court acquitted Hubert Webb and the other accused, ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove their guilt beyond reasonable doubt. But for Lauro, the decision did not end the pain. He continued to speak about his family's case and his search for justice. On February 13, 2016, Lauro Vizconde died at the age of 77, more than 24 years after his wife and daughters were murdered. He never saw anyone definitively convicted for the killings of his family.
