I'm 42, I was 17 on 9/11. It's only recently occurred to me that the entire event "only" lasted for 102 minutes. It felt so much longer on that day, and we're still living with the repercussions 25 years later.

fyi (for younger gens who werent here to experience): those flight numbers are retired today. -- ny daughter said "wouldnt it be weird to get on a plane and hear those flight numbers" i said thankfully that will never happen, those flight numbers will never be used again

It all happened in a couple hours. Four planes one after another, and the rest of the day we didn't know if was the start of a larger attack or what.

I was a flight attendant. I was on my days off but had friends stranded all over the world. The entire landscape of our job changed in an instant. Once flying resumed passengers could have NO carry-on luggage. Maybe a purse or a briefcase. No long lines during boarding. People just got on and sat down. Plastic cutlery. TSA security would confiscate everything that could be used as a weapon. Scissors, pocket knives, toenail clippers, fingernail files. Security lines were unreal.

I start my lessons on 9/11 by showing the ABC clip when the second plane hits, and then we watch the entire broadcast of Peter Jennings' World News Tonight. I think it's imperative to emphasize just how little was known on that day, and how so much happened so quickly.

I live on the west coast. It all happened as I woke up for school and ate breakfast. By the time I started walking to school both towers had fell and we knew about the pentagon.

I just remember being at home after we got sent home from work. I was young and he just started working and I remember watching people jump out of the building and just crying all day. It was the saddest most horrific thing I've ever seen in my life.

It was so traumatic, even from far away. My dad and I went to a movie a few days later just to distract ourselves for a few hours and I remember a preview that showed a clip of NY with the twin towers. I almost sobbed. It felt so wrong to see them in a fun action movie clip.

I was in 2nd grade and I still remember that day like it was yesterday. I remember them wheeling in the TVs and the whole school being tuned into the news. I can still feel the heaviness of that day. Life as we knew it literally changed that day.

I always knew it all happened in one day but it wasn't until I watched a documentary that had a timer in the bottom corner that started the minute the first plane hit, and ended the minute the second tower fell, that I realised just how quickly the buildings came down. I hadn't understood how so many people didn't know what was going on, until I realised there was barely an hour between the impact and the collapse.

I still get shaken by the story of Lt. Col. Marc Sasseville and Lt. Heather Penney. They were the F-16 pilots that went after Flight 93. They had to get in the air quickly so they didn’t have time to load missiles. The plan was for them to ram the plane. Lt. Col. Sasseville was going to take out the cock pit; Lt. Penney would take out the tail.
