You ever think about past events and be like “oh that was pre-COVID” or “that happened after COVID”? It’s the same feeling.

Seeing the tower smoking on TV in my parents kitchen is literally my first vivid memory. It was my first day of kindergarten, which got canceled of course. I still remember my dad taking his guns out of the safe

Bring in guest speakers. I’m sure you can find someone over 35. We all have stories even if we were nowhere near New York.

My own kids, 2012&2017, asked why I was quiet/somber/teary today... I had to go out of my way to NOT think about it today until after school & it hit me HARD. I'm the age of ppl who died that day, who had kids my kids age...

Have you thought about bringing an older teacher or employee in who lived through it? Could be interesting for the students to hear a first hand account of a historic event. How often do they actually get the chance to hear something like that??? You know?

May I make a suggestion? Bring people in to talk about what they saw, felt and lived. That would help them understand.

My friends son had a homework assignment where the son interviewed the parent about their experience and it was quite poignant.... you might learn a lot even by reading those

This goes for all traumatic historical events. No one can grasp the magnitude of an experience like this unless you lived thru it in a way you will vividly remember it & were forever changed by it

As a teacher who was born after 9/11 I agree it is definitely weird to grasp at what the world was like before 9/11. And when I tell students I was born after 9/11 they’re genuinely shocked.

As someone who watched it happen. I honestly didn't comprehend the severity of the attacks until I got home and was able to actually pay attention to what happened happened that day. I mean I knew what was going on but the gravity of it didn't sink in until later. Plus at the time I didn't realize people were jumping from the buildings until I got home

one of my teachers brought in her father, a survivor of the holocaust, so we could actually HEAR the effect instead of reading it from history books. maybe you could do something similar

Just wait, before you know it twenty years is gonna go by and you’re gonna watch a young teacher talk this way about COVID. that’s our 911. I was alive during but not conscious, I only know where I was because I was with my mother and she told me the story of that day. I also didn’t know a world before it but I remember it being seared into our brains ever September, it would be like an all day thing. (Went to school in TX)

I was so surprised to find out that schools weren’t teaching this. We have to remember what happened. Kids need to know about this.
