@american.nostalgi: Back in 1921, nobody trusted a hamburger. 🍔 Ground beef had a seriously bad reputation in the early 1900s, thanks to a decade of headlines about filthy meatpacking plants and "mystery meat" nobody wanted to think about. So how do you sell a nickel burger to a country afraid of ground beef? Walter Anderson had an answer. He was flipping burgers out of a converted streetcar in Wichita, Kansas, when he teamed up with insurance man Billy Ingram in 1921. Together they built something wild for the time — a tiny white enamel steel building shaped like a castle. The color wasn't random: white was chosen on purpose to scream "clean" in an era terrified of dirty meat. They even ripped the kitchen wide open behind the counter so customers could watch their burger get made from scratch. 🏰✨ The burgers themselves were small, square, steamed with onions, with five holes punched through each patty so they cooked through fast — and customers started calling them "sliders," a nickname that's stuck for over a hundred years. 🧾 Anderson and Ingram opened identical white castles city after city, building what historians now call the first true fast food hamburger chain in America. What would it have taken to convince YOU to trust a five-cent hamburger back in 1921, before you'd ever seen one made? 👇 #AmericanNostalgia #ClassicFastFood #WhiteCastle #1920sAmerica #FastFoodHistory
