@tryingnottoforget: This interaction sucked all my energy away for the whole day #earlyonsetalzheimers #alzheimers #alzheimerscaregiver #dementia #smalltalk
One of the first things I noticed about my loved one with dementia was that they were becoming apathetic, which was totally out of character for them.

I am autistic and have two autistic sons and I am also a PSW that works with dementia patients. I find there are so many similarities between autism and dementia.

That sounds completely normal. None of us like small talk with story after story.

I so much appreciate this. I know my dad was feeling overstimulated around the whole family today. And you give me the insight to understand how he’s feeling and try and make it better because he can’t tell me

I don’t think that’s necessarily only for people with Alzheimer’s. I get so agitated when people go on and on, and feel my body screaming as well. I can only handle the basics.

You just described me. I just can’t do it. I have two grand teenagers that I’m raising. They both have different issues . To the point they cannot quit talking. They will go to leave the room 15 times and turn around and start again😳🩵😜💙

Your videos are so helpful and insightful. Thank you for being willing to share. As a total side note, I love all your lipstick colors and have been so tempted to ask what you’re wearing, if that’s not rude to ask.

Its kind of nice to hear this. I have alot to talk about and often feel like I have to fill the silence for other people. When I visit my father in law with parkinsons/dementia he struggles alot to communicate. I will stop filling the silence as much.

It’s so awesome that Eric knows what you need with that hand squeeze 🥰 That truly sounds awful! I have really bad social anxiety, and adhd, I often feel this way during small talk. Or people reading something to me, which makes my brain immediately overwhelmed lol

My best friend was just here and I could feel waves of panic start. She’s lovely but she has ADHD and quickly goes from topic to topic. I’m hiding in a bubble bath now 😂😂. After she went home of course. It’s so hard

I am amazed by your ability to share this information. Please don’t be so quick to think you are progressing. Most early-stage individuals could not come close to putting their thoughts into words like you can. I think you are doing great.

It’s hard to pretend you are listening too. Recently I had a lot of people here and I had to go in the dining room and sit in a chair by myself.
