I wonder if teachers in like the 70s and 80s felt the same way about WW2. Like they would have all learned it from people alone at the time but they would be the first generation teaching workout first hand experience

I taught my kids a short lesson on it with a book about the Survivor Tree ...I was 1 when it happened so I can't really talk much . also I teach first grade so I was trying to teach it very gently

Me: “I wasnt even in kindergarten yet” Them: “So how do you know about it?” Me: “I was taught about it every year in school” As we read one of the books and were discussing for comprehension it felt so heavy… idk who started choking up first, me or them. At one point, we were actually sitting in silence looking at the photograph that was in the text. I teach 3rd.

In assembly my principal was talking about how it was so scary that everyone remembers where they were on the day, was clearly about to say “ask anyone who is on faculty,” remembered I worked there, and goes “ask anyone who is…….. over 30”
