Then make sure that we have all the information because if it’s your case and something serious is missing then I’m going to reach out to

If a hospitalized patient has not been transferred to a different doctor, you are getting a text 🤷🏻‍♀️I always do my best to let the dvm have their day off in peace but, you got to set your LVT up for success too

Im in the veterinary industry so maybe its a little different. But if you dont want me to bug you on your day off then your notes need to be super clear “can refill rx if..” “dont refill until..” and for icu, if then statments would be great. Otherwise ill text you twice and call you three times.

That’s fine. But they gotta keep that same energy when I’m off.

My doctors are dead to me when they are off. I’ll only talk to them on their days off if they message or call me first. They deserve a break

I don’t mind a text. I can choose whether or not I reply, sometimes it’s easier to quickly reply than have someone misinterpret what I meant and have to put the fire out the next day lol

I love how different everyone is. I get the "don't contact me" stance bc once I'm off, my time is mine, but I have DVMs that prioritize family and then ones that are pissed if they don't hear about everything at every point. Regardless, a text doesn't have to be responded to. I ignore texts all the time. It's a skill you develop after you realize the world keeps turning.

If it’s my regular day off-I don’t mind. But that’s just me, especially if I saw a sick case the day before and they have questions or concerns. If I’m specifically on vacation- I will respond as I see fit. 🤷🏻‍♀️

i dont mind getting texts on my day off esp when it is my case and i know the most ab the patient. i would rather they ask me than treating my patient without full info.

Not a vet but I have input on this as a pet owner with small animals. In most situations I agree that the dr should be left alone on their day off. However, I have three Guinea pigs. My province has exactly one vet who will treat Guinea pigs, the others will only euthanize. She only works about three days a week. But I have pets that, god forbid something goes wrong, are far too delicate to wait. Most of the conditions that can pop up with them are fatal within hours if not treated. If a Guinea pig doesn’t want to eat for over an hour at a time, that’s considered an emergency because their intestines will die within a few hours of gastrointestinal stasis, and they tend to be asymptomatic with uri until it’s almost too late, and several other illnesses. In such a case, there really isn’t another option that isn’t euthanasia.

I work ER and had to ask everyone to stop calling me for dumb stuff (ie stuff that was clearly outlined in the discharge instructions)…I got woken up three times after/before a night shift once and since then my phone is in DND!!!

As a vet tech, and vet student, if there’s recheck that’s yours that’s scheduled on a day off, make sure all notes are in and everything for future plans is put in correctly. If you have a patient in the hospital you need to be reachable at all times. I personally wouldn’t mind being bothered on my day off because if it’s a patient under my care I want to make sure things are done correctly
