@newstotheleft: Saudi Arabia normally has a backup plan if the Strait of Hormuz becomes dangerous: move oil west through its East-West pipeline to the Red Sea. Now that backup route is under pressure too. Shipping through Hormuz has been severely disrupted, the Houthis have seized strategic territory near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and Saudi Arabia temporarily shut its East-West pipeline after drone attacks. Why should anyone outside the Middle East care? Because these routes move oil, fuel and fertilizer around the world. More disruption can eventually mean higher costs at the gas pump, on farms, and at the grocery store. This is not “Saudi Arabia is collapsing tonight.” It’s a much more concrete problem: two critical energy routes are under pressure at the same time. #SaudiArabia #Houthis #Oil #GasPrices #MiddleEast
