Almost like that’s what happens in real life over time. Customs and traditions become lost or watered down

There’s a 200+ year gap between korra and Pavi, since korra made airbenders come back, a lot of the airbender culture was lost or not carried on very good, like we know there wasn’t air benders at all for 100 years with aang, so as time passed and with the cataclysm probably destroying what was left (or most) of the recently re-discovered airbender culture, the tattoos faded away and stopped being what symbolized them, this is just an oppinion tho, there might me another havens where airbenders still have tattoos or maybe they were removed on purpose

Omg it’s supposed to symbolize things like loss of your identity and culture especially with the setting on the new story, this hate is so damn forced. Also also might I mention the FIRST airbender arrow tattoo was aangs so no they didn’t fall to minimalism since the first episode of the original series that was his tattoo.
