They need to make a docu on how NYC rebuilt their fire depts because I have so many questions. Like how did they have enough workers in the months following, was overtime required of everyone for like months or years? How long did it take to hire enough firefighters again? Was there calls that were not answered in the days following? Assuming they were also out a lot of equipment and vehicles, how did they replace all that-did donations come in? Etc

The guy in the red bandanna (Welles) had a half filled out application to be a fire fighter. He knew there was more to life. He worked in one of the 2 tours on 78th floor, right where the plane hit. Because he had some firefighting training growing up, he helped people escape. Right before the tower collapsed, he was in the lobby going back in to help the firefighters rescue some more people. They didn’t make it out. People remembered him with his red bandanna tied on his face, it was a thing him and his dad always had. Welles had red, dad had blue. After a couple months, they officially made him a firefighter… giving his mom the certificate. ❤️he died doing what he loved.

I saw after the collapse the amount of fire fighter alarms going off from the rubble that continued to blare until the batteries ran out was one of the most saddening thing I've heard

someone who is basically like my grandfather to me was the surviving battalion chief of this firehouse. only survived because he had been off shift. this firehouse really lost all and he took care of truly every family. to see everyone be together on friday was so truly special. thank you for showing this❤️

I was in NY a month after 9/11. We went to see a show and walked around the block to the Fire Station. The doors were open and they had lined up boots in front the lockers. Every time I’ve been since I stop to pay my respects.

And once you walk in the door, how silent it is just to know everyone has passed on and won’t ever set a foot back into that fire house that had to be a Erie feeling on September 11, 2001. We visited this firehouse in NYC earlier this year, and they were absolutely amazing. They gave our son a personal tour and took the time to show us around and explain everything. Truly great people. 🇺🇸❤️🚒 Thank you for your kindness, and nothing but respect for all of you and the work you do. We were so excited that day that we completely forgot to buy some T shirts from the firehouse. 😅

My 22nd birthday, 23years ago. I was at a bar across the street, and ran across the street to look into this fire house and the doors went flying open, and the lights went on and I screamed and the one firefighter stopped before he got on the truck to take a picture with me 🥰

Rest in peace Mike Lynch, I rememebrt listening to a story from his friend Tim Brown about that day and the last time he remembers seeing his friend. It will never not hit me so hard that all of these men knew they were going up to save people and would most likely not make it back down. I love them all dearly and I never even lived on the planet at the same time. So much respect to all of the first responders and regular civilians that risked/lost their lives that day to help their neighbors.
