@grolectric: Did you know that Buffalo, Ny was the first city in the world to be electrified? These are photos (some colorized) from the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo in 1901. Visitors came from around the world to marvel at all the light and imagine the possibilities of the future. This was made possible through Nikola Tesla and George Westinghouse’s hydroelectric plant, the first large scale alternating current plant of its kind. The Edward Dean Adams Power Station provided the energy that lit up the expo and convinced the world that electrification was the future. The last slide shows the power station. #buffalony #buffalo #electricity #powerful #History
The city I’ve loved and lived in my whole life and I’ve never seen these photos. Oh what could have been. Delaware park is beautiful but this would’ve been so amazing to marvel at, think of how differently the city would’ve been laid out if these had survived.

I wish I could have seen that. My great grandparents would have been old enough to remember it, but living in north Tonawanda, I don’t know if they would have traveled that far to the fair.

Grolectric :
Correction: The last photo is actually from the Westinghouse Electric & Mfg. Co. alternating current generator exhibit at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. I’ll make another post with some photos from the actual Powerhouse No.1 (later renamed Edward Dean Adams Power Station) from Niagara Falls Power Company. This was where the power came from.
