No, Australia did not introduce fire ants to wipe out venomous snakes.Red imported fire ants (Solenopsis invicta) are a highly destructive, accidental introduction. They were first officially detected at the Port of Brisbane in 2001, though they are believed to have slipped into the country undetected during the 1990s via shipping containers from the Americas.
