@65_fps: One of the darkest Zelda theories ever made claims that Link was already dead during Majora’s Mask, and honestly, some of the evidence sounds disturbingly convincing at first. The masks, the Elegy of Emptiness, the five stages of grief, the Lost Woods, and the Hero’s Shade all seem to point in the same direction. But once you look at the actual dialogue, Hyrule Historia, Termina’s official description, and what Twilight Princess tells us about the Hero of Time, the theory starts to fall apart. What’s interesting is that the theory may still have understood something important about Majora’s Mask. The game really IS about grief, loss, death, and learning how to move forward after losing someone. So maybe Link wasn’t learning to accept his own death. Maybe he was learning how to keep living after losing Navi.
