Joshua O’Malley :
So a “1 gallon jug” is not a proper measurement of 1 gallon? So who’s scamming us?

Monkey Fett :
So either the gas stations is scamming us, milk companies are scamming us, or we need to figure out wtf one gallon is

A gallon is a volume measurement, so a gallon should be a gallon. No matter what liquid is inside of it and the weight might be different. Because the liquid might have a different composition, but a gallon is a gallon. That's a volume measurement, not a weight measurement

my husband took a five gallon gas jug to a local gas station for gas for our lawnmower, pumped what he thought was five gallons according to the pump but gas wasn't anywhere close to the five gallon line on the jug.

The milk jug scamming is the dumbest thing, they wouldn’t sell us 2 gallons of milk for the cost of 1

You’d have a better case by looking up the size of your cars gas tank land comparing to that. If you can pump 25 “gallons” into a 14 gallon tank, NOW you have proof.

so if a "gallon" of milk isnt a gallon then why is it being sold as a gallon? Clearly we have been getting ripped off by both the gas companies and the the milk companies

I would understand the whole “milk jug not being accurate “ if the jug was filled at the very least, 3/4 full but it’s not! It’s not even half full!
