@youupgradeyou: A Florida woman once had to fight the state for the right to keep her 6-foot, 125-pound alligator living inside her house. 😭🐊 Mary Thorn of Lakeland had cared for Rambo for years, and this wasn’t exactly your average backyard alligator. Rambo wore clothes, had his own bedroom, watched TV, waited by the refrigerator when he was hungry and even rode with Mary on motorcycles and ATVs. Mary also brought him to schools and charity events to teach people about reptiles and said she had trained him to keep his mouth shut around people. But in 2016, Rambo had grown past the size allowed under the conditions for Mary’s property. Florida wildlife officials said an alligator that large required at least 2.5 acres of land, putting her permit in jeopardy. There was another problem: Mary said Rambo couldn’t simply be moved outside. Before she took him in, he had reportedly been kept in extremely dark conditions and developed a sensitivity to sunlight, which is also why she dressed him in clothing when he went outdoors. So Mary fought to keep him. After months of negotiations, she eventually got her wish. Florida wildlife officials granted her a personal-pet license allowing Rambo to continue living at home with her, although she could no longer use him for public exhibitions. You literally cannot fully train a gator but you also can’t release that gator because it’s way too trusting of people and cars - some of the most dangerous things towards its health.
