It has never made sense to me to characterise him as 'far right'. an ultra nationalist for sure, but he was friends with drag queens, Avant Garde anarchists, even made many warm comments to leftist students, and of course was gay himself. I think he was an edgy guy, but nothing like the dedicated ideological fascists of Europe.
