1. Be careful of what you pay for modern in print sets, don’t pay above MSRP to help combat the scalping problem. 2. Have fun! Think about if you just want to collect art you love, or if you want to do other fun collections like master setting a specific pokemon that you love. What’s your favorite pokemon right now?

Honestly, it's a really rough time to get into the hobby. I have been collecting since I was a kid, stopped around 2015, and jumped back into it last year and have since slowed down because of how hard (and sometimes dangerous) it is to get product at MSRP. I just don't have the time to watch the discords or wait in line multiple days to have a chance at getting something. Not trying to deter you, just want you to be aware! We should see a downshift in the scalping and fomo hitting everyone within the next two years, but it is just something to keep in mind. And listen to all those saying never buy from scalpers or people selling insanely above MSRP, at the end of the day they are pieces of cardboard and it's never worth the money unless you have a significant amount of disposable income that you want to spend.

Go to a local shop and buy raw ungraded singles. Do not invest in packs and graded cards. Waste of money.

Buy Japanese if you like the art but don’t want to dish out loads of money, stay away from whatnot and always haggle at card shows. Top loader binder is a must and Facebook is good way to find older more nice cards if you’re in to that

Go to card shows and shop singles! Def buy a binder with no rings and side loads. I love Vaultx binders. Ripping packs is fun but finding product rn is really hard unless you wanna pay scalper prices. Some local card shops will charge msrp price but unfortunately most of them are up charging like crazy
