@kahurangimalcolm: aising tamariki in Te Reo Maaori - Our story. We aren’t the first whaanau to raise tamariki in Te Reo Maaori and certainly won’t be the last. But, people often ask about our story. How did we learn Te Reo, where did we start, how did we go about it? So, here’s a bit of our story. We are giving it our best crack and constantly learning as we go. #tereomāori #tewikiotereomāori @ohinganz @Reomaori @Tame in the taiao
Ka rawe! Love that your wider whanau embraced te reo after you. The ripple effects are awesome

This gives me hope that I can still teach my tamaiti who’s now 4 🤍 Although I’m not fluent, we still incorporate as much Te Reo as possible

We are a English only family but because we teach our kids the basics that are also taught at kindy and school. Some people look at me funny when I tell my 4 year old to sit down at the Kai table or that its time for Kai or mom. We also taught our older boy pakipaki as a baby and would never do it if you simply said "clap clap" it drives my very white, very "Its CaLlEd NeW ZeAlAnD" father in law to the brink of a heart attack and that brings me joy so Ill keep teaching my kids as much as I know 😅 my 4 year old can also confidently tell you "Ko swallywag Tooku Ingoa" 😂😂

Your recent tiktoks inspired me as a mum to learn Māori and be able to speak in te reo with my tamariki. I moved to Australia 13 years ago and have had my children here. I’m currently enrolled in tutoring online classes learning te reo maori so thank you for sharing your journey!!

My partner is Māori, and I’m Viet. I grew up speaking my language fluently enough but my partner didn’t. I do want our future kids to be trilingual and I intend to learn to speak the language although uncertain how to navigate. If you have any guidance please share! Definitely following to hear more of your story :)
