@pollar.news: On 9 September 2026, about an hour into his Dallas convention keynote, President Trump promised a $5,000 "dividend" to every adult US citizen if Republicans keep the House and the Senate on 3 November. The bill for that, on Time's count of 240 million adult citizens, is $1.2 trillion (CRFB). This film does not measure the size. It checks what arrived, promise by promise. February 2025: an adviser's $5,000 per taxpaying household from "DOGE" savings; Trump called it a great idea; nothing was paid. November 2025: at least $2,000 a person from tariffs, in Trump's own post; the same day his Treasury Secretary said it might just mean the tax cuts already passed; ten months on, no cheque. December 2025: $1,776 to 1.45 million service members, paid within days as a housing-allowance supplement. Trump said tariffs paid for it; officials said Congress had voted the money in July, for housing, and the Pentagon repurposed it. Also in law: $1,000 for every newborn. In January 2021 the other party made the same kind of promise before the Georgia runoff: $1,400 landed ten weeks later, on top of $600 Trump had signed eight days before Biden spoke, because Congress passed a bill. For the $5,000 there is, as of 11 September, no bill and no mechanism. Trump told CBS News Texas he does not think Congress is needed and that "we've taken in trillions of dollars in tariffs." Treasury's July statement shows $154.5 billion of customs duties this fiscal year, net of $114.7 billion refunded after the Supreme Court struck down most of the tariffs in February. That is about one dollar in eight of the cost. The Senate majority leader is open to the idea; one senator says he will write a bill after the vote.
