@aircraft_engineer_: How does an aircraft know its altitude, airspeed, and vertical speed? It all starts with pressure. The Air Data Computer (ADC) receives pressure information from the aircraft's pitot and static systems, processes those measurements, and converts them into air- data information used by the flight displays and other aircraft systems. So that altitude and airspeed you see in the cockpit aren't just numbers appearing from nowhere. Pitot pressure + static pressure → Air Data Computer → flight information.
