everyone is flaming you cuz this is a “privileged take” but even community college requires some type of tuition, its like 100 bucks each class, and yes your parents WHO brought you into this world, should he helping you pay for it , because fresh into college you’re not gonna just magically get a job and make all that money in order to pay for it all. I get it some parents are low income, but thats why they should teach you apply for fasfa, scholarships, food stamps, etc.

i agree but also some people can’t afford that, MY parents can’t afford that and they shouldn’t have had kids if they weren’t financially ready, however i don’t hold it against them. they’re trying their best to continue to support us

yall are mad at the wrong person… sure tuition varies but not being able to drop 20k a year for sometimes multiple children is not realistic for the average American family. blame the universities for making education hard to obtain if you aren’t absurdly rich

YES!! I also hate when ppl say it’s too expensive.. like yeah kids are expensive don’t have them if you can’t fufill their needs. I get going through a rough patch but I think you should be trying to help your kid as much as possible in the end it’ll benefit you if you raised your kid right.

i agree only if it’s something they COULD afford if they didn’t spend money on bullshit. forever grateful my parents didn’t spend money on expensive vacations and parties and other junk.

Yes!! and even parents know they cannot pay with their lack of income there are so many colleges going tuition free for lower income families and as a parent you should support your child in their education so that they are able to get into those tuition free colleges

no i agree because college is nearly a necessity now to make decent money and to set your life up for success. love my parents but they genuinely have no idea how hard it is to be able to afford life right now on top of student debt

i feel like being able to pay for affordable tuition yes like reasonably priced college, and if they want to go to a much more expensive college that the parents should help but they shouldn’t be expected to pay it all. i genuinely know someone who can’t qualify for much financial if any at all because he parents make a butt ton of money but they are refusing to help (and making her pay for her car and insurance and a bunch of other stuff she’s in CRAZY debt) and so she either has to do community college and give up on the dream of going off to college or go to her dream college and deal with the debt later

honestly the way my parents are doing it is really great and i really appreciate it. they completely paid for my associates degree, and they’re helping out as much as they can with the rest of my bachelors. they can’t pay for it all because they’ve helped me with other things like splitting the cost of a car, a new laptop, and more. yes i have to pay some of my tuition, but my parents have set me up for success in many areas

Very privileged take. College itself shouldn’t be as much as it is. Parents might be able to provide for their children with their needs and wants. College however is a completely different kind of expense. It’s around 30k per year, and on top of that parents have to pay rent, food, and utilities.

i hate arguments like this because its simply “you’re poor? don’t have kids!” but statistics show sometimes people don’t have a choice. poor people will have kids regardless, so if you actually gaf abt kids at all i implore you to stop with this mindset that solves nothing. advocate for it to become more affordable to raise a child. telling poor people to all “stop having kids” would cause many more issues than it would solve. this is a hot take because people who study this field overwhelmingly disagree with it. normalize critical thinking.

College is a luxury not a necessity, my parents clothed and fed me til I was 18 it’s up to me to figure my life out, I can barely pay rent and my medical debt forget about college, but my struggles once I’m out from under their roof are simply not their problem

And shouldn’t be held over the child’s head to control them. Not speaking from experience or anything….
