@thecampbeagle: In 2025, 2,765 procedures involved beagles, up from 2,488 in 2024. 🔸️ 66.1% — 1,828 procedures were regulatory toxicity and safety tests for human medicines. 🔸️ 7.0% — 193 procedures related to regulatory toxicity and safety tests for veterinary products. 🔸️ 2.9% — 80 procedures related to agricultural products such as pesticides, down from 188 in 2024. 🔸️ 0% — No beagles were recorded as being used for industrial chemicals legislation in either 2024 or 2025. 🔸️ 21% — 581 procedures fell under "other procedures for beagles", identified in the statistics as non-regulatory toxicology and ecotoxicology. These can include earlier-stage toxicity studies that are not themselves undertaken to satisfy a regulatory requirement. Only these two categories are not related to regulatory or non-regulatory toxicology or ecotoxicology: 🔸️ 2.4% — 65 procedures were classified as basic research. 🔸️ 0.7% — 18 procedures were applied/translational research. WHAT DOES THIS TELL US? These figures strengthen our case that ending the use of dogs for human medicines is a realistic and achievable first step towards ending animal testing for all animals. Human medicinal-product testing alone accounts for almost two-thirds of all procedures involving beagles. 🐕 There is no evidence that beagles were used for cosmetics or household cleaning-product testing.
