I agree with you. and tbh I think asking "was this scene necessary?" is a really unproductive way to approach stories because art doesnt have to be 'necessary' or justify itself to everyone imo. also, another comment said something similar, there's just no comfortable way to portray SA in movies. it's an inherently uncomfortable topic regardless of how a story deals with it so to me its a moot point

the scenes nuance extends to how it was filmed too in my opinion. they had an intimacy coordinator which a lot of shows wont really use and many would argue is unnecessary. super important to me that they did this to keep everyone on set safe
