@lizzie_oliver: Beginner friendly easy to use is what we are all about here. This is my base line essentials - there are many more but these are what I personally recommend as a beginner doing simple trails. #beginnerhikingtips #hikingapp #alltrails #hikingsafety #hikingjourney
I wasnt keen on Alltrails. Have you looked at Hiiker and Komoot?

OS Maps is the GOAT for hiking in the UK. It's well worth getting used to it as it gets you used to paper maps and you should always carry (and know how to use) a paper map and a compass. If you buy a paper OS map there will be a code you can input into the app so that you can download that map to the app and use it offline.

DO NOT RELY ON APPS. Learn to navigate using a paper (waterproof) map and 🧭. You may thank me later.

this is sound advice, alot of the parking apps allow you 24 hours to pay if you haven't got any signal

Gaia GPS app is also really useful, you can take routes from alltrails or os maps (os maps requires https://not-python.github.io/osmaps-gpx/), download the route for free then load into gaia for free offline navigation

Please use OS Maps it’s the safest and you can download your routes so they work off line. all trails has a bad rep for taking you off paths and down bad dangerous routes

os all the way. Google collects data from cars, it's great for driving, but puts footpaths in the wrong places.
