I do love how she and husband had this conversation together about it. I appreciate people who figure out how to listen, especially when stuck in a cult. It’s such a hard concept for people to imagine, but I look at it like when I was a kid - I thought our country was Superman to the world; if someone tried to tell me everything I learned was wrong, there’s a good chance if I was more stubborn I wouldn’t have believed them. It took me leaving the country and living in Germany for two years to start deconstructing from what we had been taught. But I had to be PUT there to learn, you know? Some people never leave their tight knit community. They fear the unknown and the strange because they lack understanding. Politics breeds off that lack of understanding, which yields hatred, fear, and “othering”

I heard a creator say that her yt co-worker told her that a lot of them picked him bc he represents what they're familiar with. He represents the men in their lives that raised them and the men that they've loved growing up, which in turn gives them this false sense of security and the inability to see him for who he really is.
