@jtgrote.books: I love morally grey characters when they make me argue with myself. Not when they’re just „bad, but with trauma.” Give me characters with real values, real contradictions, selfish motives behind good actions, good intentions behind terrible ones, and choices that make complete sense right up until you realise what they actually cost #BookTok #fantasybooktok #fantasy #writing #author
I love morally grey characters who still have a super strict code. It might be strange, it might be incredibly different from the norm but it is there

So,basically write a character that’s not pure evil?like an actual person?that’s always how it feels to me when i see the definition of morally grey characters

Talented Mice #1 fan :
i made a character who can read minds and can absorb and take on emotions. she believes the best way to live is to not live at all. she is trying to destroy the world because she sees what shes doing as a kindness. she is also like the kindest and most empathetic and sympathetic person you'll meet. i don't think this is morally grey but i just wanted to share.

Coriolanus Snow in a Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is the best morally grey character I have ever read!

I also hate when people make the "selfish" reason they do bad things that they are trying to protect themselves, their loved ones or their country. Killing in self defense is not morally grey. killing someone who objectively is more evil than you isn't morally grey. It disappoints the readers who wanted an actually morally grey character and it sets unrealistic standards for heroes.
