Seasoning shouldn't be mostly sugar! If you’ve ever picked up one of those Schwartz chicken or fajita seasoning packets, you might be surprised to learn that the first ingredient listed is actually maltodextrin—which is just another form of sugar. Garlic? Pepper? They’re much further down the list, which is wild considering the product name. These seasoning mixes are filled with cheap additives that really don’t need to be in a basic spice mix. And they’re charging €3.20 for just 50g! I’m pretty sure they’re making a huge margin for something that’s majority maltodextrin (sugar!) A much better swap is to make your own seasonings at home using spices - if you want to replicate one of these seasonings just look at the ingredients list and pick up the supermarket brand spices listed such as garlic powder, paprika, onion powder, cumin etc. If you used the own-brand spices at Tesco and mixed up a big batch to keep in a jar in your cupboard, it would work out much cheaper and without all those unnecessary additives. Even better, you could get the spices in an Asian supermarket for even less! There’s nothing premium about what Schwartz are doing here—just marketing and another case of profit over people.
