@1000libraries: Did you know? Stanley Kunitz, who was named U.S. Poet Laureate at ninety-five, thought historians could tell us what people did but only poets could tell us how it felt. Turn to the poets of the past, he said, and you find the record of how people responded to their own experience, something that simply does not exist from before poetry began. He made his own contribution out loud, composing by voice, a practice he traced back to a childhood spent reciting words among the trees in Worcester, Massachusetts.
