english is my 3rd language and when I talk to native english speakers, especially americans, I’m always surprised by how little some of them seem to know about their own language. like, how the f do you not know that "supposably" is a word? Why do you have to hear it from me? 😭

Look, we get it. English has dialects, like any other language, but that doesn’t take away from the shock of hearing them for the first time, especially since English is so mainstream. It’s weird that, for how mainstream English is, its dialects have so little representation in traditional media, which is what most learners consume to learn the language outside of courses where, again, they are taught formal English.
