As someone who is a good test taker I disagree. I had a friend in college who would have stress induced seizures during exams. Being that stressed is going to negatively impact your memory recall and ability to focus on that moment.

As someone with adhd I struggle with tests because I need to sit in one place the whole time, keep quiet, focus on the questions and not let time get away from me. I’ve gotten a lot better at it though and I have accommodations for state and AP testing that gives me more time. Last year i even got a 4 on my APUSH exam!

So, interesting thing about tests, they don't incentivize memorizing long term. I can guarantee I don't remember half the shit on my middle school math tests. What they incentivize is cramming, like a spelling bee, or a speech. You just need to remember the stuff until the test is over, then you can cram for the next one. So no, passing or failing a test isn't an indicator of someone's intelligence.

I would have to disagree. I get grades well into the 90s with academic excellence in advanced classes, yet I wouldn’t count myself as smart. Often times I feel myself being very slow, and I often forget people’s names and faces that I met just yesterday. When I want to solve a problem, I end up doing it wrong entirely. I’m not entirely aware of what goes on around me at times. Grades don’t tell the whole story, they just show your aptitude to grasp ideas presented to you that go beyond basic memorization.

I think the problem they are referring to is more test conditions than them struggling with the questions.

you forget what you learned last year if you don’t experience it again, 90% of what you learned is eventually lost. Most topics shown in school you won’t see again regularly for the rest of your life. That’s why in my opinion it shouldn’t be taken seriously. To pass a test its not about being intelligent its about memorizing stuff for that day, getting an A, and never looking back.
